Healthy Facilities
Your dog’s health and safety is of utmost importance to us. In order to maintain as healthy an environment as possible we must require your dog to be vaccinated for Rabies, Distemper/Parvo and have had it’s bordetella shot within the last six months. You will need to upload those documents in your profile from your vet. The Bordetella vaccination protects against kennel cough. However, much like the flu vaccine, your dog can still contract kennel cough (much like a cold) despite having the vaccination. That is the reason we require it to be updated every six months.
We take cleaning very seriously at DCDS. We clean every bowl after it is used, we clean inside and out at least twice a day and throughout the day are focused on specific chores to make sure every inch of our facility is clean. If you have any questions about our procedures, do not hesitate to ask.
Required Vaccinations
Rabies
According to Denver Law (PDF), rabies vaccinations are required for all Denver pets. Rabies, a disease that affects the central nervous system, has no cure and is almost always fatal.
Fleas, Ticks & Lice
These vermin, once rare in Colorado, are now more common. Keep your dog on a regular flea/tick/lice regimen to combat these from occurring. These aids can be purchased at any large pet store and are usually given monthly.
Distemper / Parvo
While commonly called canine distemper vaccination, this vaccine typically protects your pet against more than just distemper. That’s because it is actually a combination of vaccines in one injection that will protect your pet from several serious diseases.
Bordetella
There is a yearly vaccination offered by vets. In an environment as social as daycare, we require a booster every six months. This presents no harm to your dog and minimizes the odds of an outbreak. The bordetella vaccination is similar to the flu vaccine – despite having the vaccination, your dog can still contract kennel cough from other dogs.
